Lakewood is more than a neighborhood — it is a community built by the people who care about it. From maintaining our shared spaces to planning events and welcoming new neighbors, every effort helps make Lakewood a more beautiful, connected, and enjoyable place to live.
Whether you have a lot of time to give or just want to help here and there, there is a place for you to get involved.
There Is a Place for Everyone
Getting involved does not have to mean a huge commitment. Some residents enjoy helping with hands-on projects, some like planning and organizing, and others simply want to support community efforts when they can. Every kind of help matters.
You can get involved by:
- Volunteering at community events
- Helping with beautification and landscaping projects
- Joining a committee
- Assisting with neighborhood communication and outreach
- Welcoming new neighbors
- Supporting projects through donations or sponsorships
- Sharing ideas for future improvements
Current Ways to Get Involved
Lakewood has several ongoing opportunities for residents to participate in ways that match their interests, skills, and availability.
Beautification and Landscaping
Help improve and care for Lakewood’s shared spaces through planting, mulching, cleanup days, and special improvement projects. This may include work at the pavilion, bridge areas, entrance beds, lakeside spaces, playground areas, and other common areas throughout the neighborhood.
This is a great fit for residents who:
- Enjoy gardening or landscaping
- Like outdoor projects
- Want to help make Lakewood more beautiful
- Prefer one-time or seasonal volunteer opportunities
Community Events and Activities
Lakewood events help bring neighbors together and build a stronger sense of community. Volunteers are often needed to help plan, organize, decorate, set up, serve, welcome guests, or clean up afterward.
This may include support for:
- Beautification Day
- Community meetings
- Family gatherings and seasonal events
- Holiday activities
- Fundraising events
- Special neighborhood celebrations
This is a great fit for residents who:
- Enjoy community events
- Like planning, organizing, or decorating
- Want to help behind the scenes
- Enjoy making neighbors feel welcome
Maintenance and Improvement Projects
Some residents prefer practical, hands-on ways to help. Small maintenance and improvement projects can make a big difference in the appearance, safety, and functionality of shared spaces.
Examples may include:
- Cleanup and debris removal
- Light repair or improvement projects
- Sign, bench, or common area upkeep
- Helping install or maintain shared-use features
- Assisting with neighborhood work days
This is a great fit for residents who:
- Like practical tasks

Communication and Outreach
Clear communication helps keep Lakewood connected. Residents can help by sharing information, supporting outreach efforts, promoting events, and helping neighbors stay informed.
Volunteer support may include:
- Helping spread the word about meetings and events
- Assisting with flyers, newsletters, or social media
- Supporting community updates
- Serving as a Street Ambassador
- Helping new residents get connected
This is a great fit for residents who:
- Are friendly and organized

Welcoming New Neighbors
A warm welcome goes a long way. Residents who enjoy meeting people and building community can help Lakewood make new neighbors feel informed and included.
This may include:
- Helping with welcome materials
- Delivering welcome baskets or packets
- Sharing helpful neighborhood information
- Connecting new residents with events, committees, and opportunities to get involved
This is a great fit for residents who:
- Enjoy meeting new people
- Want to help create a welcoming atmosphere
- Care about building strong neighborhood connections
Join a Committee
One of the best ways to stay involved is by joining a Lakewood committee. Committees help move ideas into action and support the ongoing work of the Association.
Beautification Committee
Supports planting projects, shared-space improvements, landscaping ideas, and beautification events throughout the neighborhood.
Social and Events Committee
Helps plan and support community events, seasonal gatherings, family activities, and neighborhood celebrations.
Neighborhood Safety Committee
Focuses on concerns related to safety, awareness, neighborhood watch interests, traffic concerns, and shared community wellbeing.
Communications Committee
Supports newsletters, flyers, website updates, social posts, outreach, and other efforts that help keep residents informed.
Maintenance and Infrastructure Committee
Helps identify needs and support projects related to upkeep, common area improvements, and community assets.
If you are interested in serving on a committee, we would love to hear from you.
No Time for Volunteering? You Can Still Help
Not everyone has time to volunteer regularly, and that is okay. There are still many meaningful ways to support Lakewood.
You can still get involved by:
- Donating toward community projects or events
- Sponsoring beautification efforts or shared-space improvements
- Sharing ideas or feedback
- Attending meetings and events when you can
- Helping spread the word about volunteer opportunities
- Encouraging others to get involved
Even small contributions make a real difference.
Opportunities for Students and Service Hours
Students who need community service hours may be able to volunteer at certain Lakewood events and projects. This can be a great way for younger residents to get involved, give back, and earn service time while helping the community.
Service opportunities may include:
- Beautification Day projects
- Event setup and cleanup
- Community support roles
- General volunteer assistance at neighborhood activities
If service hours are needed, please mention that when signing up so we can help coordinate accordingly.
Why Getting Involved Matters
Every planted flower, every volunteer hour, every shared idea, and every helping hand contributes to the future of Lakewood.
When residents get involved, it helps:
- Keep Lakewood beautiful and welcoming
- Strengthen neighborhood pride
- Improve shared spaces
- Support family-friendly events and traditions
- Build stronger connections among neighbors
- Create a more active and engaged community
