We’re hosting two Lakewood Committee Information Meetings at the pavilion on June 30th and July 8th at 6:00 PM, and you’re invited.
Whether your passion lies in beautifying the landscape, planning holiday festivities, helping neighbors in need, or protecting our lakefront, there’s a place for you. Committees are a fun and rewarding way to contribute to the community’s growth, meet like-minded residents, and help shape Lakewood’s future.

Below there are example committees, their mission statement and examples of responsibilities — as well as a registration form if you cannot make it to the informational meeting. And as always, feel free to reach out to us with any questions!
Welcoming Committee
Mission Statement / Purpose: To create a warm and friendly introduction for new residents of Lakewood by providing helpful information, a personal greeting, and a sense of connection to the community from the very start.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver welcome packets to new homeowners or renters
- Provide key information about the Lakewood, amenities, events, and how to get involved
- Offer a friendly face and help answer common questions new residents may have
- Maintain a list of recent move-ins and coordinate outreach
- Work with the Communications or Events Committee to highlight new neighbors in newsletters or social posts (optional)
- Help foster a positive first impression of the neighborhood and encourage community participation

Social and Events Committee
Mission Statement / Purpose: To foster a strong sense of community by organizing inclusive, engaging, and fun events that bring Lakewood neighbors together and enhance neighborhood spirit.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate social events for all ages, such as picnics, fish fries, holiday gatherings, pet days, and seasonal celebrations
- Organize logistics including venues, supplies, schedules, volunteers, and communication
- Promote events through the newsletter, website, bulletin boards, and social media
- Collaborate with other committees (e.g., Welcome, Beautification) for combined efforts or themed gatherings
- Ensure events are inclusive, family-friendly, and reflective of resident interests
- Manage event budgets as approved by the Board and submit expense reports as needed
- Gather feedback after events to help improve future planning
Landscaping & Beautification Committee
Mission Statement / Purpose: To enhance the visual appeal, health, and enjoyment of Lakewood’s shared spaces by planning, promoting, and maintaining community landscaping and beautification efforts that reflect pride in our neighborhood.
Responsibilities:
- Recommend and coordinate landscape projects for entrances, lakefronts, pavilions, and common areas
- Organize seasonal planting, mulching, and clean-up efforts (e.g., spring flowers, fall leaves)
- Plan and lead community beautification days with resident volunteers
- Identify and suggest native, drought-tolerant, or pollinator-friendly plant options
- Work with vendors or the HOA Board to support professional landscaping when needed
- Assist with maintaining or improving signage areas, flower beds, and walking paths
- Develop low-cost, high-impact beautification ideas and submit project proposals
- Encourage resident involvement through volunteer opportunities and shared pride
Neighborhood Safety Committee
Mission Statement / Purpose: To promote a safe and secure environment for all residents by fostering awareness, communication, and cooperation. The committee works to reduce risks, prevent crime, and enhance emergency preparedness through collaboration with neighbors and local authorities.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and address safety-related concerns raised by residents
- Coordinate with local law enforcement and emergency services
- Share safety alerts, tips, and prevention strategies with the community
- Encourage neighbor involvement in watch programs or patrols
- Host or support safety workshops (e.g., fire safety, self-defense, emergency kits)
- Review lighting, signage, and access issues in public areas
- Develop and promote an emergency preparedness plan for storms, outages, or disasters
- Communicate regularly with the HOA board on safety trends and suggestions
Maintenance & Infrastructure Committee
Mission Statement / Purpose: To support the upkeep, safety, and longevity of Lakewood’s shared spaces and physical assets by assisting in the oversight of maintenance needs, infrastructure improvements, and project planning. The committee aims to help preserve property value and enhance the usability of common areas for all residents.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and document needed repairs in common areas (e.g., pavilion, signage, lighting, walkways, drainage)
- Recommend prioritized maintenance projects to the HOA Board
- Assist with vendor research, estimates, and scheduling (as directed by the Board)
- Monitor completion and quality of maintenance or improvement projects
- Develop and update a maintenance calendar or checklist (seasonal needs, regular tasks)
- Help coordinate or supervise volunteer-based upkeep days (like clean-up or painting)
- Serve as a point of contact for residents to report maintenance concerns
- Collaborate with other committees when projects overlap (e.g., Beautification or Lakefront)
Neighborhood Outreach & Care Committee
Mission Statement / Purpose: The mission of the Community Outreach & Neighbor Care Committee is to foster a compassionate, connected, and inclusive neighborhood by supporting residents during times of need, celebrating life events, and strengthening community bonds through acts of kindness and service.
Responsibilities:
- Organize support efforts for residents facing illness, hardship, or loss
- Recognize milestones like new babies, retirements, or long-time residents moving
- Coordinate seasonal giving drives (e.g., food, coats, school supplies)
- Maintain a neighbor assistance list (volunteers willing to help with meals, errands, etc.)
- Build a spirit of kindness and connection through small gestures of care
- Serve as a liaison to help identify residents who may need support
Lakefront & Nature Committee
Mission Statement / Purpose: To protect, preserve, and enhance the natural beauty and ecological health of Lakewood’s lakefront and green spaces, while promoting responsible use, access, and enjoyment for all residents..
Responsibilities:
- Monitor the condition and recommend improvements to lakes, lakefronts, shorelines and nature areas
- Organize community events such as clean-up days, nature walks
- Identify opportunities for new amenities (e.g., benches, picnic tables, wildlife observation areas, fishing areas)
- Promote safety, accessibility, and inclusivity in all shared outdoor spaces
- Educate residents on eco-friendly practices, water quality, and wildlife habitat protection
- Serve as a liaison with local environmental agencies or conservation groups if needed
Parks and Recreation Committee
Mission Statement / Purpose:
To enhance the quality of life in our neighborhood by developing, maintaining, and promoting safe, accessible, and enjoyable parks, green spaces, and recreational opportunities for all residents.
Responsibilities:
- Organize clean-up days and coordinate volunteer efforts for park, playground and recreational areas
- Assist in maintaining equipment, signage, and landscape features in public spaces
- Collaborate with the Beautification and Maintenance Committees when appropriate
- Serve as a liaison between residents and the HOA Board on park-related concerns
- Assist the HOA in identifying budget-friendly, sustainable upgrades for natural spaces
